Somebody 'splain this to me....

Everybody is making such a big deal about Michael Vick. Yes, he's horrible, yes, he should go to jail and pay a fine and whatever, yes, yes, yes, enough already. Already people are saying that he should never play football again, he should be banned for life, he should go to jail forever, etc.

He's probably going to go to jail for at least a year. If he's banned for life, it'll be for gambling. If he doesn't play again it'll be because every team is scared of the PETA protestors. For killing dogs.

Leonard Little got drunk and killed a person. He only went to jail for 90 days and he's still playing football. I know this because I just watched the Rams on Saturday and it makes me sick every time I see him or hear his name. Where's the outrage for that?

Why do we care more about dogs than people?

I'm not saying we should punish Michael Vick less. He's scum and he deserves whatever he gets. I'm just wondering why scum like Leonard Little are still playing. Sometimes I think the NFL sucks.

Call me cynical, but most dogs are a damn sight better than a lot of people I meet every day.

Michael Vick is an ass, and deserves to roast....but so does Leonard Little.

I agree with crankyprof. Neither one of them should be gracing the football field. But Michael Vick is just the flavor of the week, at the moment. Soon this will all "fade" and someone else will do something horrendous. . .

I completely agree, I also love pets, but I'm am ashamed that people aren't more worked up over more serious crimes such as rape and manslaughter.

Vick deserves jail time, but it seems strange to ban him from football when other criminals will play.

Michael Vick does deserve jail time, but I think he should do a small amount of time and be forced to perform 2,000 hours in a year of community service--cleaning cages at the SPCA.

Killing anyone or anything for "sport" is ridiculous. He is despicable as is the person killer.

The problem isn't our response about the dogs. The problem is our lack of response to people.

Um, yeah, that's what I said.

Logically, you are 100% correct. Anyone convicted of a violent felony should be banned from the NFL. Too many people look at these people as role models and heroes; too many people think that you can earn that kind of money and have that kind of fame with no personal responsibility whatsoever. Never liked jocks, me.

But I think the hook here is the same reason we feel more deeply when we hear of a child being hurt or killed. No, a dog is not a person; a dog is a creature totally dependent on people for their health and well being. They are incapable of defending themselves adequately against worthless emasculated thugs like Vick. And in that, the things he has done stand out.

I do dog rescue and fostering. I have met some of these kinds of dogs and what it does to them; I see the reputation these dogs have thanks to these subhumans. I think through your job you see more of the human casualties, and that is foremost in your mind. Neither impulse is wrong. But I don't think it should be that one crime is less because the other exists.

as i've said from the start, he would be in a lot less trouble if he had simply killed a person.

I don't know anything about Little's situation, but you say that he got drunk and killed someone, which suggests to me that it was not his intention to kill someone.

That said, I am NOT sticking up for him in the least. But it brings me to the point that what Vick did was INTENTIONAL, not accidental.

I don't think either of them should be playing professional football - they both should be playing football during their allotted hour of PE in prison.

Holding a living and breathing being underwater to drown them is fucking sick, whether it be animal or human.

There is no limit to the disdain and disgust I feel for that man. None.

Um, Leonard Little isn't nearly the celebrity that Mike Vick is.

Come on, nobodys gonna bother getting outraged if you're not adequately famous.

Different commissioners, different times. The NFL, including many of the players, have realized that the myriad of incidents was giving them a bad name and potentially could impact their wallet if things kept getting worse. The new commissioner has the mandate to knock heads.

Little was drunk driving and hit a car killing a woman. He got 90 days in jail, probation, and was given an 8 game suspension. Then a few years later he was pulled over for speeding and the cop suspected he had been drinking. Little failed 3 field sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer. His lawyer got the field sobriety tests thrown out and he was told by the judge not to drink for two years. He is despicable.

If the Little incidents happened under this commissioner, I'm sure the NFL punishments would be much more severe.

Try telling that to Rae Carruth.
