Chief complaint of the night

"Namonya"

She was an 18 year old female. She was right. She had it.

I told her that in honor of this occasion, that is what she should name her first born daughter.

She looked at me like I was crazy and told me she already had two daughters.

Then I remembered where I live.

Huh ? That totally went over my head... I'd never name my babies after pneumonia. Scarlet fever maybe... :)

Happy Sunday to you, Monkeygirl ! Thank you again for the reflecting blogger award ! I put it up today and linked it back to you !

Maybe she could use it to name her firstborn son....or does she have one of those already too?

When I worked at an inner city hospital one of the young dietary workers had twins.
She named them
Lemonjello (pronounced Le-mon-gelo)
and Orangjello (or-an-gelo) in honor of her job in the kitchen - making jello.

You act as if being an illiterate 18-year-old with 2 kids is a bad thing. I'm sure she has a loving, well-paid husband who has vowed to support her and the kids while she makes her way through her Bachelor's and Master's programs.

*snicker* that was a good one, MG. I am sure she is still trying to puzzle out in her head what you meant, exactly.

Heh. Worked with a woman who was going to name her next child "Nokia" after the phone because she liked the way it sounded. And I remember a pregnant 17 yr old, G5 (yes, FIVE) P3 (yes, THREE). And she just looked like a little cheerleader with a basketball under her shirt. Sheesh. Sometimes ya just gotta look at the family.

Monkey, I'm sure you're not, but don't fret about those who "don't get" your naming scheme...they just aren't privileged enough to experience the wonderful, creative ways we've all seen to name kids.

I know I certainly get it...and the scary thing is, it WORKS!

"namonya"...haha!

I've been keeping a list of names that I encounter at work. If I see a good name I email it to myself for the list. Last night I added Delicia, Jennyvette and Ruqayyah.

One doctor had a secret collection of funny patient name stickers on a piece of paper. I'm sure the HIPPA police made him throw that away though. Haven't seen it in awhile.

I think Molly is the strangest name in the name book.

Guys, I've heard some crazy stuff too. I used to work psychiatric and you can bet you hear some seriously bizarre names for people's children. Some are so unique I can't say them (HIPAA again).
Let's do be careful, though, about urban legends and problematic characterizations. Just a thought...

For Nurse K. It's HIPAA NOT HIPPA. One "P"and two "A's".
