Quote of the Night

"Since you're taking all that blood, can you see if the doctor will do a test to check if I have fibromyalgia? I think I do."

I'll allow you to use your imagination and picture her age, size, activity level, employment status, "health insurance" provider, and narcotic of choice.

Wow, they have a blood test for that now?

I think you forgot to add "education level" because that's one of the first things I imagined!

"If you're like me, you've spent agonizing hours dealing with the pain of fibromyalgia. I used to hurt so bad I couldn't walk my cats or feed my birds, let alone clean their cages. Then I found Lyrica, and I suddenly got the urge to enroll in painting classes after taking walks in the park while laughing with my new friends, all of which shopped at J. Jill. Life is so great now."

The new in vogue diagnosis of choice, thanks to Pharma. At least you have a great alternative to narcs.

Blood test? Did you tell her that's it's not a blood test? It's a more involved CAT scan to make sure she actually has a brain...

Those Lyrica commercials make me think of you every time I see them. :รพ Bunch of nutjobs....

In response to the implicit questions:

Mid-thirties, fit and athletic, daily exercise and lots of outdoors activities, middle management, BCBS PPO plan, no narcotics if at all avoidable.

What do I win? :-)

Cheers,
Felix.

Aww, those darned marketing people are striking again...when people walk in off the street and demand Lyrica.

Just like the crack addict with an epidural abscess we admitted this week.

I couldn't believe the rehab doc actually prescribed it...arrgh!

Should have done the 'test' then told her she didn't have fibro, but that she has chronic constipation, ya know FOS.

I know that there are always people who abuse drugs with many different "diseases" or "back pain". I do actually have fibromyalgia. I am not fat, work out 5-6 times a week, work full time an an RN, and have insurance. I also do not take anything other than some advil if the pain gets too bad. The people who are comming to the ER have way more than fibromyalgia, they have mental illness and laziness. Please don't discount the people with true fibromyalgia, it sucks that I hurt daily, but I continue to be a productive person. Trust me, I understand the frustration of dealing with patients who are "disabled" and have no insurance, but manage to afford to drive around drunk and cause MVA"s. See it all the time.

As Chris Rock would say..."You're SUPPOSED TO BE PRODUCTIVE, what do you want, a cookie?"

I've yet to meet a non-achy nurse.

To answer MG, I'll go mid-40s, unemployed vs. "disbled", female, white, morbidly obese, Medicaid, and, hm, the last is the hardest, but I'll go Percocet.

What I don't get is, how come people in the UK get diagnosed with fibromyalgia when there are no ads fo r it on telly, and most GPs don't believe in it anyway!

(BTW I think I escaped a fibromayalgia or maybe ME diagnosis IOW "I don't know what's wrong with you" by just not talking about pain + fatigue with my GP any more.)

And as for the questions. Hmmm. Female, 30 - 50, very overweight, unemployed, don't understand the US insurance companies so can't comment, and an opiate of some sort .
