Comment of the week

From the last post:

Starting now, every time I have aches and pain from working a 15 hour shift or helping to boost a 350lb immobile person, I'm going to call it a "flare." Every time I don't sleep from being stressed out and feel retarded in the morning, I'm going to call it a "fog". I will then call my problem "nurseymyalgia."
Ah, Nurse K. You inspire me.

I haven't had a coherent thought in 5 years... Probably the brain cells that are being lost at an alarming rate due to my children sucking them from me... Is that 'mommymyalgia'?

Being retarded as an intern from lack of sleep/lack of respect/lack of knowledge = internalgia? medicalalgia? residalgia?

Expect a drug-seeking visit from Sumdood in the near future with a complaint of acute nurseymyalgia and a request for Darvocet, Vicodin, and mebbe some Actiq pops too.

I fell asleep at 0200 last night because I was engrossed in this book. When I awoke (on the rather uncomfortable couch in the morning), I was having both a flare and nurseyfog.

I recommend that book, BTW.

hahahahahahahhahaahahah I like that. Can I get disability for it? Should I call my lawyer about work related injury? Huh, huh should I.....? Do you think a drug company will come up with a medication for it? Maybe I can be the spokesperson in a commercial...

Girlvet is on to something. We can find a drug that is about to lose its patent, rename it, and then re-patent the drug, making it the drug of choice for nurseymyalgia. Then we can all retire.

Nurses who are burnt out need to do the medical field a favor and find an new job. Your name says it all, you ARE a highly trained money.

It's obvious you are only in the field for a pay check, not because you care about your patients. I bet you work in a senior care facility.

The anonymous minions have spoken! I find these people fascinating. They have sufficient income/community to either own or access the internet. They read fairly narrow interest blogs. However, they do not show signs of having read enough of the blog archives and comments to gather an overall perspective of the author, yet they insist upon flicking their fecal flavored ignorance and advice far and wide. Anonymous 1, bless your heart, get your own blog!

Ranting doesn't make a nurse "burnt out;" on the contrary, it's what helps keep a nurse SANE. Finding humor in the battlefield of ANY healthcare facility, from Nursing Home to Real Hospital in the Big City is part of keeping that sanity too.

You do what you can with what you're given; you take what is good for you and use it, then you vent or blog the rest.

If you don't, THEN you burn out.

Amen.
