Sometimes this job just sucks.

When a healthy 33 year old man signs in at 0030, we should not have CPR in progress at 0100.

Yes, sometimes it happens.

And it sucks.

Sorry, no details. I don't have the energy to HIPAA-fy the telling.

been there. Done that. As I know you have.
But I also know how much it sucks.

I hear you. I don't mind it so much, though, if it's a young person, say, under 30. Those are the ones you tend to take more personally.

Stuff like that happens in the OR too. Just when we think it's a simple procedure (i.e. minimal blood loss, 30-40 minutes of the patient being under anesthesia), we sometimes find ourselves calling a code. So much for "simple"!!!

MG...I can relate. Worst death I ever dealt with was an OB death..both mom and baby died. That's not supposed to happen with a scheduled C-section, you know.

Watched someone even younger to exactly the same thing just recently..sucks no matter how you stack it

Those are the times when CPR is stopped and all is quiet except for the ticking of the clock which reminds us, as much as we hate to admit it, that life goes on despite what we have just witnessed.

Take care, leave what you can at work, love what you can at home.

Dear Monkey-Girl,
An anonymous post from a friend. You will know who it is when you visit this link. Perhaps a smile in light of the crappy night that you describe above. OBTW, Lord willin' and the creek don't rise the Cap. One bowl might feature your team versus mine! No taunting or gloating if it happens.
