Priorities

When I started this blog, my intent was to give the friends and family that I no longer see very often something to remind them of me, lest they forget my smart-assed-ness.

I'd put up a post, go over my Blogs I Check Every Day list, and I was done. 30 minutes on the Internut, tops.

Then I got famous. *snerk*

I started posting more, I got linked more, the attention was fun.

Then the reciprocal blogroll grew, and I found a lot of fun new blogs. I subscribed to Bloglines, so that I could keep an eye on them. Pretty soon I was spending hours on the Internut. I still am.

To tell you the truth, I'm getting sick of the damn computer.

And the stuff that is going on in the blogosphere, as well as the stuff going on in various blogger's lives, is starting to affect me in my personal life. It's taking time away from other things, as well as making me cranky.

I didn't really put it all together (I know, DUH) until I read Babs' post today. Now, I don't have a new relationship to nurture, but I do have a husband that I'm neglecting, and I haven't gotten any flack from anyone in particular lately, but the possibility is always just one post away.

And dammit, it's football season. My Chiefs may not do well this year, and my Wolverines may have taken a trip on the suck train, but there's plenty of good football being played, and I want to watch it.

So I'm going back to the way it was when I first started it. Babs said it best.

"The blog is just a blog. Just a little hobby."
My anonymous internut personality is not the most important part of my life. I've got other things to do. I'll still share my musings when I have them, and I'll still read yours occasionally. But if I want to take some time off, I'm gonna. And if you don't like it, well, Frankly, Scarlett.....

Exactly. I just needed a break, myself and I'll figure it out from there. Bless you too.

Watch some games. Hang out with your hubby. Have a life.

When you post something, however infrequent that may be, I'll be here reading.

You rock, you know. ;)

Since you know how bloglines etc work, you know that anyone who receives your feed will read you when you return.

I don't care if you post once a month or once every six months...just make them good ;)

Too many people come to take blogging way too seriously. While it can be a nice way to meet people or keep in touch with those who we don't see often, it isn't a good substitue for real life. So always keep it as a hobby/side thing at best and never let it take up too much time. If it gets too bad just walk away for a while, should you decide to come back the internet will still be here.

Well, any of us who have blogged for any significant amt. of time. (almost 2 years for me) can relate to everything you have said. I have taken several breaks. At one point, I had hundreds of readers everyday and the stress of always trying to put up a good post to keep everyone coming back was getting on my nerves, like you said, I was also neglecting my husband, kids and my grandkids.

I have also had my blog stolen by someone who was using it for google ad's. Over a year of posts(more than 600 of them)in one second time was gone and wiped out as though they had never been written. I eventually started another one but my zest for it was gone. I have hosted various rounds and carnivals but I quickly lost my enthusiasm for that as well.

I was spending hours each day on the computer.

I still love my blog and I have made some real genuine friends on here. but, real life has to come first.

Take the time you need and when you come back Im sure the readers who really care about what you have to say, will still be here and reading. That's the beauty of bloglines.

I'll miss your postings Monkey Girl, but completely understand your reasoning.

Go and enjoy the things that don't have anything to do with computers!

Go with your bad self. Football season, family and life are more important than a box with a screen. . .

Waa Waa Waa.... What a whiner! What about me? What am I supposed to read? I only have about three blogs I read every day and yours is one and mine is the other... Keeping me happy is way more important than football. I've never understood that whole thing... Except of course when Steve Young was playing and Mom was watching it all the time... Anyhoo...

You do realize that this just means that your ever-so-infrequent posts are going to have to be better than before. Don't think that you can start slacking off any in the creativity department.

I'll be watching you... :)

It's football season. I won't see my husband again until after Christmas, either. (longer if the Cowboys go to the playoffs) Have fun!

Football baby!! And let me tell you, I was shocked as HELL that Texas beat KC! Bugt my little rookie Jacoby Jones scored some fantasy points for me so wheeee.... And Larry Johnson just didn't get the ball that much, so that hurt you. Sorry!

Enjoy your time off and enjoy football! Woot!

Thank you, and enjoy yourself.

With blog aggregators it's no longer necessary to post regularly to keep an audience. No one has to keep checking back to see if something has been posted. So you will stay in my google reader and when you have news, opinion or snerk, tomorrow, next week or next year I will welcome it.
