Financial Decisions

So my husband called me tonight to tell me he has worked out a plan. He's figured out the hows and wheres of investing a little extra money so that we can retire before we get to Wal-Mart Greeter age. Our master plan includes a cabin, on 50 acres, off the grid, in the middle of nowhere. (Find me there, you drug-seeking twits!)

That wasn't the surprising part. The surprising part was what he's willing to give up for the initial investment into the account.

For those of you non-gun nuts out there, (which I'm assuming is most of you), this is a Cooper Arms Model 22 Phoenix in 6.5 x 284.

He's had the money earmarked for this baby (and has talked about nothing but), for months.

And now he says he'd rather wait a while, and put the money towards something more useful. Like retirement.

I'm worried. This could be considered a significant Change in Mental Status. Perhaps he's having a stroke.

Bigger worry; if we do put the money in this account/fund/whatever, am I going to have to listen to him whine about it for the next year?

OH wow, it sounds like he might have a bleed somewhere, you might want to rush him to the ER. Make sure you tell them the whole deal. LOL...

Worry that ten years from now he will take the entire retirement fund and spend it on a Westley Richards when he comes to his senses.

Nurse K, who is broke as HELLLLLLL care of the ex-husband, still contributes 3% of gross wages to a 403B tax-deferred investment account every pay period. When I'm less broke as HELLLLL, I'll contribute a little more. Supposedly, I'll be a millionaire at retirement age, not including equity in my house and other things.

Everyone should be doing that; there's no excuse.

Best practical joke ever: giving a drug-seeking freak a map leading to your cabin and labeling it "Free Narcs!"

Saving for retirement is a good thing.

Was your husband kidnapped by aliens and replaced by someone who looks just like him ? I've never heard of a guy deciding he doesn't want a gun before...

Yeah, my family and I want to get 1000 acres, a potter's wheel, and the hell with it. I could probably sell my house here on the east coast, and buy that 1000 acres in somewhere nice- like Idaho or Montana- cash. But I'm not much into homeschooling. :P
