Our System Sucks

Ok, no jokes. Just outrage. My mom told me about this.

Across the country, there are whiny, lazy, worthless drug-seekers and system abusers that think that they are entitled to free everything. Drugs, money, food, whatever. They've figured out the angle to keep them fed, clothed, and drugged, and in the meantime, they are taking resources away from the people that not only need them, but deserve them.

These are the people that we are failing. This is a man who worked hard, did his best, and at the end of it all, he still drew the short straw. Desperation drove him to do the unthinkable.

I'm going to go cry now.

Where are the couple's kids in this situation? Why aren't they helping out?

Due to the economics of our current society it is nigh unto impossible for someone to have a career near family. Companies expect people to just pick up and move at a drop of a hat - usually with no assistance.

My best guess, the parents either didn't tell the kids what was going on, or the kids are barely making it themselves. Those of that generation are very, very proud, and as Navy this gentleman probably thought the military would come through for him.

I'm thoroughly disgusted by our society so often these days I quit readin the news for days on end, only to find nothing new (except names) when I read the paper again.

I am also disgusted by our society, on the one hand we have enabled generations of people who have never worked a day in their lives and have a massive sense of entitlement. On the other hand we have a generation of people that worked hard everyday of their life and now that they need help they are told that they don't qualify because they worked. If that isn't massive stupidity, i don't know what is.

With the dramatic increase in the numbers of elderly we are going to see in the next couple of decades, this problem isn't going away.

And yet, how can we possibly take care of the elderly, the children, the poor, and the crippled (in the style to which they have become accustomed) without destroying that which makes our country great?

It's an eternal question.

The services divide is an issue near and dear to our hearts. We are constantly told that our son is either too high-functioning for service, or we make too much money, The fact that I work three jobs trying to cover the services no one will pay for is of no interest to those assessing applications for assistance. Then we also have the fun of medical insurance telling us speech and OT are educational services, which the school tells us they won'r provide "service that is medical" and is very limited in resources available to provide educational service.

In other words, ain't nobody's problem but our own. What would happen to my boys if I got hit by a bus?

Hey --

I look after my mom. She has many problems, does not qualify for medical assistance because of the money she gets from my dad (divorce settlement); but she certainly does not qualify for government assistance.

Where does that leave my mom?

It leaves me, here, taking care of her. I often wonder if she will commit suicide because of the pain. I pray that she won't, but I fear taking care of her for the next decade of my life.

Where does that leave me?
